5 Best Festival Gazebos

March 4th, 2009  |  Published in Features

The first of this year’s festivals are only months away now – time to put away those sledges, dig out the wellys and shorts, and put the cider on ice – yes it’s nearly festival season.

81629268MC041_FIRST_FANS_AR

A big part of many festivals has got to be the camping experience – crammed into a patch of what is normally a cow field along with 50,000 other campers (it is fun honest!).

While festival camping is often great fun it can also be hard work! You never know quite what the great British weather is going to throw at you – rain, wind, sun? In my years of festival experience it’s normally a mixture of all three!

A gazebo can be a great addition to any campsite set up and can help bring a little bit of civilisation to the campsite!

Things to consider

Before you go ahead and go and buy a gazebo for a festival it might be worth considering a few points;

  • Firstly size – Some festival campsites can be very tight on space – bringing a 6 meter party gazebo is going to make it very hard for you to find a pitch and is not going to make you popular with the other campers. Look for gazebos that are big enough for your party, but do not take up excessive amounts of space. In the past I’ve always found that traditional gazebos with long legs are great as they can be positioned over tents which allows them to be erected in smaller spaces.
  • Waterproofing – Most gazebos are designed for protecting from the sun and not the rain. As a result most gazebos are not fully waterproof. In my experience most gazebos will offer a certain level of protection, but will eventually start to leak in a sustained downpour. If you want extra protection against the rain, look out for gazebos designed to be waterproof.
  • Weight and size – Gazebos are generally designed to be put up in the garden, and so their weight and the size of the package they come in is generally not an issue. At some the larger festivals such as Glastonbury for example you may well have to walk a few miles across the site to the camp grounds. In this sort of situation can be a real pain! The solution is to go for a travel gazebo, buy a trolley, or take a rugby player!

Without further ado, we are proud to present our top 5 festival gazebos;

New Section: Travel Gazebos

March 2nd, 2009  |  Published in Features

travel 150x150 New Section: Travel GazebosWe’ve just added a new section to the site – Travel Gazebos. Travel Gazebos are a relatively new addition to the gazebo market. They come in a range of shapes and sizes and at a range of price points.

What they all have in common is their portability and low weight.  Taking their cues heavily from modern tent design, travel gazebos are constructed of flexible carbon fibre poles and lightweight materials rather than the heavier tubular metal poles found in standard gazebos. This makes them extremely light in comparison to traditional gazebos, and also allows them to be packed into a much smaller case.

These lightweight gazebos are great for taking to the beach, on a picnic, or to a festival – anywhere really where you need carry the gazebo along with you.

There are a range of manufacturers, prices range from £56 to £270. View the full range of travel gazebos.

The Gazebo Buying Guide

March 1st, 2009  |  Published in Features

This buying guide aims to help you out in choosing the right Gazebo at the right price. We all know that Gazebos are great for bbqs, picnics, festivals and all sorts of other uses. But what should you look for when you are buying a new Gazebo? This guide looks at a number of features you might want to look out for;

Sizes

Gazebos come in all shapes and sizes. The smallest Gazebos tend to start at around 2m x 2m. From there upwards you’ll find a range of sizes right up to the party size Gazebos.

Fabrics

61cvtsdgkil sl500 aa280 150x150 The Gazebo Buying GuideThe fabric of the gazebo might be something you want to consider. We all know the great British summer isn’t always so great so choosing a gazebo made out of the right material just might allow you to continue that bbq when the sun goes in and the rain comes out. Many Gazebos are made out a mix of synthetic materials – while these offer an element of protection against wet weather, after heavy or persistent rain water may well start to come through the fabric. If waterproofing is essential then look out for specialised gazebos made of a waterproof material that offer much greater protection from the rain allowing you to keep the party going whatever the weather!

Colours

Blue and Green are the mainstay colours of many gazebos although there are an increasing number of manufacturers producing a number of variations.

Sides

Standard gazebos tend to feature a roof canopy, which offers shade from the sun and in some cases protection from the rain. For a greater level of shade and relief from cool breezes look out for gazebos that feature side panels. These are available as optional extras on some gazebos.

Portability

51ifnvrrdkl sl500 aa280 150x150 The Gazebo Buying GuideMost gazebos are designed to be used in the garden and therefore tend to be heavy and contained in quite bulky packages. If you need something that you can easily take down and carry with you on longer trips then a travel gazebo would be prefect. Travel Gazebos come in all shapes and sizes and at a range of budgets.
